Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Don't know if anyone has checked out the Alton Towers Twitter yet but that announcement wasn't for the scare maze, it was for SW7. So far they have just said "New developments in the X Sector area of the Theme Park have uncovered a previously undiscovered area of the Towers - #SW #TMOJ #TS" And have tweeted the words, "The ministry of Joy" and "The Sanctuary". No idea what they are on about, but wow, this sounds interesting!

edit: Acctually they have just tweeted that this is to do with the scare maze. But it sounds like they are trying to link it with SW7 with the SW hash tag. And the mention of the X sector developments.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

All this worries me tbh, it's sounding very 13 and nothing to do with the actual current theme of the area.

I'm keeping my expectations very low on this project tbh.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

can't wait for the "you have to sign waivers, because it's so scary" statements. Merlin Entertainment lives up to their name, they're very entertaining :D

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

To be honest, the hole looks only slightly deeper than what the plans show for the batwing element to be sat in. Plus what Furie said about the station foundations.

I'm a bit  at the 'previously uncovered artefact/monster/creation' type thing AGAIN (if that's what they're going for).

Yeah, that Twitter feed is a bag 'o **** but it just means the new maze for 2012 is called 'The Sanctuary' and is operated by The Ministry of Joy, and is somehow linked to X-Sector. They've also announced a zombie road, that I think may be near Duel (but I'm a little clueless about this as I won't be going and have only done Terror of the Towers a few years back).

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

They had the zombie road last year and it was on the wall between spinball and the x-sector.

I wish they'd stop with the whole ' previously undiscovered part of the towers' rubbish, it's boring and unoriginal now.

Back on topic: yay, dirt and digging and... stuff...

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Yeah I think from the whole undiscovered part of the towers thing, I am guessing this has nothing to do with SW7, shame, the whole theme behind the sanctuary sounds quite good! Hopefully i'll get to see it in a few months.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

It wouldnt suprise me if 'world first' was in fact the worlds first mini gerstlauer-but-hyped-as-the-greatest-ride-ever coaster, in similar fashion to thFAILteen, that there is no beyond-vertical drop, no lift hill infact, but rather just a station, Wardley designed drop element, and roll back into station with hellish sound effects and props to scare the living sh*t out of those with the biggest backbone! Now there's the worlds scariest ride for £28,000,000. Hehehe

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

^ Sorry but... what are you talking about? Both coasters have lift hills.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

The whole post was cram packed full with sarcasm. It was aimed at mocking thFAILteen

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Has something like this been done before (aside from by a five-year-old in 1995)?

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Assuming that picture shows a side view, and not top-down, that would only be feasible for a flyer, I'd say. Blood rushing to the head would make an inversion like this excruciatingly painful for anybody sitting right side up.

Unless the entire thing is highly controlled (think a mechanism where the car is being pushed along at a steady, but slow speed, by something akin to an old water wheel), or the cars are allowed to turn freely somehow (ZacSpin?), I don't see it happening.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

^ Not unless there is a twist in the track like the loop on "RipRideRockit" thus the ride won't fully invert. It would make for a nice little element.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Premier called, they want their originality back!

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

If the track exited the other way, it could be possible. But it wouldn't be the same as you drew, in the sense of it being a loop. As mentioned, it would have to have alot of mechanical things to make it be able to do it safely, without making the riders have to go to hospital after every ride, due to the forces. It could be the world's first, but I doubt it.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Anyone noticed how no ones really getting excited about this?

Is it just because its early days, it a case of its not up the enthusiast street, or what?

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

I for one am not due to all the let downs from Alton. For me their last good addition was Oblivian.

So I'm just waiting to see what this is and what they are going to do with it.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

111 pages when all we have is a hole and a shed suggests that most people are excited about it, tbh.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

I think people will start to get excited when we see track, as then we may be able to find out what the ride is going to do, but Alton has let people down a lot over the past years with over hyping. Tbh I think the only great coaster at the park is Thi3teen and even that's isn't very good compaired to other parks.

Not even sure where to start with that tbh.

I mean, I could go on and question why you don't seem to rate Nemesis/Oblivion higher than it.

Or I could point out that you have Rita in your username.

Instead I'll deal with the first part of your post; Alton get an awful lot of criticism (at least in recent years) from enthusiasts for 'over-hyping' a ride. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. If anything, it highlights the strength of their marketing department if they're able to generate such a high level of expectation for a ride that something that is ''decent'' is deemed as a let down. Alton clearly work to exceptional standards, at least in the eyes of enthusiasts, and so any ride that falls below this is deemed as disappointing.
